Latest company news about Excavator Travel Gearbox Assembly Working Principle Maintenance Guide

Learn about excavator travel gearbox assembly, working principle, usage tips and professional maintenance. Durable excavator travel reducer for all mainstream excavator brands, OEM quality & long service life.

The travel gearbox assembly, also known as travel reducer, is the core transmission component of an excavator’s traveling mechanism. It is compatible with major excavator brands including CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, Kobelco, Sany, XCMG and Doosan, ideal for heavy-duty working conditions such as earthworks, mining and infrastructure construction.

Our travel gearbox assembly is made of high-strength alloy materials. Internal gears, bearings, oil seals and other parts are precisely processed and fully inspected in accordance with OEM standards. Featuring high transmission efficiency, strong load capacity, excellent wear resistance and superior tightness, it effectively prevents intrusion of sediment, rain and dust for long service life. As a key power transmission part, our products are perfect OEM replacements with great compatibility and cost performance, the top choice for equipment maintenance and overhaul.

Working Principle

The excavator travel gearbox operates based on multi-stage planetary gear transmission. The hydraulic motor outputs power with high speed and low torque. Inside the gearbox, sets of planetary gears, sun gear and ring gear mesh with each other to reduce speed and increase torque step by step.

The converted high-torque power is transmitted to the track drive wheel, driving the tracks to move forward, backward and steer. With a compact structure and stable power transmission, the assembly efficiently converts hydraulic power into traction force, ensuring reliable traveling performance on complex terrains.

Precautions for Use
  • After installing a new gearbox, run the excavator with no load for 30 minutes. Check for abnormal noise, oil leakage and vibration before heavy-duty operation.
  • Avoid long-time high-speed traveling, sharp turning and forced self-rescue with single track, which may cause gear impact and shaft fracture.
  • Stay away from deep water, mud and sharp rocks during operation, to prevent box damage and internal part failure caused by muddy water intrusion.
  • Stop operation immediately once you notice weak traveling, uneven speed, abnormal noise or oil leakage. Never run the machine with faults.
  • Use gear oil and hydraulic oil of specified standards. Do not mix oil of different types.
Maintenance & Upkeep
Daily Maintenance

Inspect the gearbox appearance before daily work, check oil seals and joints for leakage, and clean sediment and debris on the surface.

Regular Oil Replacement
  • First use: Replace gear oil after 50 working hours.
  • Normal working condition: Replace gear oil every 500 hours.
  • Harsh dusty & muddy condition: Replace gear oil every 300 hours.

Drain old oil when the gearbox is warm, and refill with new oil of the same specification.

Routine Inspection

Tighten all bolts every 100 working hours. Disassemble and inspect wear of internal gears and bearings every 3 months, and replace aging oil seals and damaged parts timely.

Standard maintenance effectively reduces failure rate, extends service life, and cuts downtime and maintenance costs.
